The report is not the result
A recommendation can be analytically sound and still fail because it ignores workload, capability, culture, systems, incentives, decision rights, or the realities of peak service. The work is not complete when a deck is delivered. It is complete when the new standard is understood, operating, measured, and owned by the people responsible for maintaining it.
Work with the people doing the work
Frontline employees and managers see friction that is invisible in a conference room. Involving them improves the diagnosis, exposes unintended consequences, builds practical solutions, and creates early ownership. Participation does not mean every decision requires consensus; it means decisions are informed by operating reality.
- Define the problem with evidence.
- Design the change around the real workflow.
- Test it under normal and peak conditions.
- Train, observe, correct, and reinforce.
- Transfer ownership with clear measures and review cadence.
Stay through the difficult middle
Change becomes hardest after the initial enthusiasm fades and before the new routine becomes normal. This is where coaching, follow-through, visible leadership, corrective action, and adaptation matter most. Advisers who disappear at this stage leave the client with activity but not transformation.
